This week's DOTW comes all the way from up north from Norwish (okay, we know it's meant to be Norwegian but today we prefer Norwish) band Remington super 60. They have sent us a 22 tracks from which 12 or 14 will be released shortly on the Cafe2001 label in Europe and they have been offered deals with both a Hong Kong and Japanese label. And for Global Domination, they are looking for a release down south on an Austy label. And best to get onto the music, mind. Lovely, whimsical, laidback pop with boy/girl bedroom vocals. Like a Teenage Fanclub radio show mixed with Papas Fritas and what I imagine Belle & Sebastian albums are filled with. Not sure what the line-up is but the photo provided shows a guy on guitar, a girl on cello and another guy on a mini-keyboard (or it could be a laptop or a fancy electronic phonebook). There is quite a lot of variety here with 60s lounge-inspired songs ('A Day At Christopher's Bedroom', most of 'Elevator Disco Express') sitting comfortably next to some lo-fi disco ('Dance To The Casio Beat', 'Pling Plong') and some country-ish tunes ('Give It To You', 'We Sing Ba Ba Ba'). remington
Overall, I enjoyed all 22 tracks and would have a tough time trying to pick which ones that would make the final album cut. Again, we're gonna sound like a scratched record now and say that we would love to release Remington super 60 in Australia but time, money and the fact that is very hard for HAC to sell records by bands from the other side of the world makes us say, sadly, that we'll have to pass this on this one. Because Remington super 60 are an excellent band and this cd will be in the listening stack for quite some time. -ND
