We sometimes get follow up cds from previous Demo Of The Weekers and this week we can proudly announce that past winners Wons Phreely and Halfway both race up to the podium to receive their second gong. On his first cd, Wons was a confident and accomplished one-man-band and this time around he continues that confidence but with a full band around him. There's plenty of drum programming and synth bleeps, piano motifs and strummy guitar sounds backing his casual and cool vocals. He's also getting it out there on the airwaves, as I heard the opening track 'To Begin With' a couple of times a day on Sydney's FBi last year. There's a lot of lyrics and their theme - music - is pretty noticeable (eg. 'Why does an E chord suddenly sound so right? Since when did an A minor chord come over me so real?' in 'Dumb Ass'). Somehow, it all seems to work. Reminds me of Beck and M. Craft.
