Picture this. There's a party in full swing down at the beach. Bodies are huddled around a fire, clinging onto their drink of choice. Couples have peeled off from the warmth of the fire and are canoodling in the half-dark. And there are about ten or so 'kids' (we'll call them kids but we're sure all are in their mid-twenties) jumping up
and down and swaying from side to side. We can't really call it dancing as it's impossible to do The Frug when your feet are shin-deep in sand. It doesn't matter, as they are lost in the music coming from She'll 'B' Apples, a
three-piece band playing on the edge of the grass, powered by the longest link of extension cords running like a snake down from the holiday house. "Here's our next one," screams the singer/guitarist Fe Porter, "It's gonna make you wish you brought your togs!" as they launch into 'In My System'.
Mid-song, bassplayer Jo 'Funbags' Gardiner reached down, grabs a handful of sand and throws it at drummer Jarrad Kennedy, who, unfortunately for him, was open-mouthed mid-drum solo. Ouch! Crunchy. The next song 'Love Wounds' keeps the pace up before the band slow it down a bit with 'Patti's Song' which features a special guest on violin. Everyone was wondering just who that girl dressed in a tuxedo clutching a violin case was. Damn, and we thought it was gonna be full of more beers. She'll 'B' Apples play a few more up-tempo pop-punkers before announcing that they are "goin' in for a swim!" and then proceed to run into the water - guitars, boas, drumkit and all. -ND
